I’m just going to enjoy this for a minute, I thought as I slowly walked around the mature bull elk I just shot, taking it all in. As I circled the carcass, admiring every angle of the massive antlers, I suddenly noticed this bull displayed a bigger body than most. In fact, aside from a handful of prairie-living Montana bulls I tagged, he could be my biggest bodied mountain bull ever. The enjoyment aspect of the moment began to fade out as the reality of being solo in the backcountry smacked me. This dude was huge. I wasn’t. It was again time to put on my big-boy pants.
